PARENTAL ACCEPTANCE OF BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES IN PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY. A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

Authors: Ivan OBADIAH, Emg SUBRAMANIAN

Abstract:

Introduction: The present systematic review aimed at evaluating the  agreement with behavior guidance techniques (BGT) by the  parents of children in pediatric dentistry. Materials and methods: A structured search of Cochrane Library, PubMed, Science direct, LILACS and SIGIL was performed up to April 2022. Two authors selected studies independently, extracted data, assessed their methodological quality using the Joanna Briggs scale and the Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE). Results and discussion: Forty-two studies covering parents’ agreement with BGT were included. The methodological quality assessment varied from low to high. Across the studies, the agreement with BGT varied from high acceptance for tell-show-do to least acceptance for passive protective stabilization, without hand-over-mouth. Conclusions: There is very low certainty in evidencing that the parents of pediatric dental patients were more likely to agree with basic BGT and less likely to agree with the advanced ones.
