CLINICAL AND THERAPEUTICALLY ASPECTS IN HALITOSIS

Authors: M. Hasna, S. Andrian

Abstract:

Halitosis, this “social disorder” gains more in the new dental practice. In 85-90% of cases, halitosis is caused by bacterial destruction of organic material, especially on the dorsal surface of the tongue. The main malodorants are represented by hydrogen sulphyde, methyl mercaptane and dimethyl suphide, better known as volatile sulphur compounds (VSC). Tongue cleaning using special spatulas and brushes is important in the treatment of halitosis.
Another effective mean to reduce malodor is mouth rinse using different compounds.
