Abstract:

The prosthetic treatment has an important contribution on the improvement of life quality, but sometimes removable partial dentures may influence negatively the health status of oral tissues (teeth, periodontium, and mucosa).
Puropse: The aim of this study was the evaluation of some aspects regarding oral pathology induced by the wearing of removable partial dentures and the application of prevention measures.
Methods: clinical trial was made for 32 institutionalised and non-institutionalised patients wearing partial dentures. Results: In this study it was been observed that the changes are reduced in institutionalised patients comparative with non-institutionalised subjects.
Conclusion: The oral pathological changes of elderly patients wearing removable partial dentures seem to be more reduced in the case of institutionalised patients. For a good oral health, the patients should be motivate, trained on the oral and dentures hygiene procedures and periodically controlled.
