Abstract:

Clinical and laboratory studies accomplished since 1990 have proven the existence of a new pattern of carious lesions in posterior dental group, characterized by a significant increase of early dental caries both on occlusal and proximal surfaces. The conventional and digitized ortopantomograph may constitute a way for patient motivation in order to obtain his agreement for minimal invasive treatment of early proximal caries. The ortopantomograph may also orientate the dental practitioner for an adequate treatment plan accordingly with cariogenic risk and progression patterns of dental caries. The conclusions of our study prove the usability of ortopantomograph in early proximal caries detection and cariogenic risk assessment.
