Abstract:

The personality configures itself as a specific differentiating structure, which distinguishes us from each other, through the whole inborn and acquired psychoindividual characteristics, which express themselves in various forms of behavior, interests, aptitudes, temperament, character. The approach of child in dental practice, considering a well collaboration during the time of establishing therapeutic methods, needs a special attention to the knowledge of the physical, intellectual and psycho-social development stages of the child and also the therapeutic methodology specific for each stage of age. For a good collaboration with the child, the dentist should be prepared with a series of psycho-pedagogic notions and a deep knowledge of psycho-social transformation of the child and he should use some psycho-protective means according to the stages of age, determining this way the success of the treatment. The psychological factor should be taken into consideration when we have in view the therapeutic finality (dental treatments) and especially in the growth period of time. A general understanding of the children, of their psychology and of the philosophy of child care is essential in dental practice for the healthy and disabilited child.
