After a brief description of the clinical forms and characteristics of IOFA, the authors discuss the main physiopathological mechanisms possibly implicated in the triggering of the painful syndrome. A series of hormonal and neuropsychical factors, the intervention of which one must take into account at the application of an efficient pharmacological, surgical, and stomatological treatment.
