Abstract:

The study, performed on 56 patients, examined in a private surgery, evaluated the etiological factors involved in the occurrence of dental wear lesions. The patients were first subjected to a clinical oral examination, their observation sheet recording their oral hygiene habits, as well as the abrasion degree on the cervical area and incisal/occlusal margin. Statistical processing of the data made use of the SPSS 16 program. The values obtained showed statistically significant correlations (p=0.000<0.05) between horizontal brushing and the degree of cervical wear, and also between the age of the patients and the degree of occlusal/incisal margin. The results obtained showed that the brushing technique may cause cervical erosion lesions. Also, age may influence the degree of occlusal or incisal abrasion.
