Abstract:

The scope of the study was to evidence and describe the micromorphological modifications of the etching enamel surface under the action of several clinico-technological factors. 40 integer third molars, extracted for various reasons, were employed in the experiment. After their etching and subsequent submission to the action of several clinico-tehnological factors, they were processed in view of electronic microscopy investigation with a VEGA II LSH model scanner. The 3 types of retentive microrelief described by Silverstone were evidenced, according to coronary topography, presence of marginal level and type of present smear-layer (diamond or carbure burrs). Modification of the enamel surface induced by etching at microscopic level may be modulated by various clinico-technological factors with decisive impact upon the quality of composite resins adhesion.
