Abstract:

Introduction: Following digitalization of maxillary casts with unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP), the maxillary alveolar arch was computer-reconstructed. Material and method. Superimposition of the digitalized and reconstructed surfaces of all consecutive casts. Results and discussion The pattern of alveolar form evidenced growth particularities of the maxillary alveolar arch, the direction and amount of growth in 0-6 year old children, allowing identification of the growth patterns from the maxillary dimensions and distances between surfaces, measured and expressed graphically. Conclusion Computer-aided determination of the defined maxillary dimensions within the first six years of life showed decreased sagittal and transversal dimensions of the alveolar arch in patients with cleft lip and palate.
