Abstract:

Explosive caries represent an extremely complex and difficult to treat pathology. Many of the atients with explosive caries also suffer from bronchic asthma, a disease treated with glucocorticoides. The present study determined the DMFS cariogeneous index in 50 patients affected by bronchic asthma, occurring in various stages of development, treated with different corticosteroide doses. The patients came to the dental surgery for the treatment of various odontal complaints. The obtained data, statistically processed with the SPSS 16 program, evidenced a correlation between the corticosteroide dose given to the patient and the value of the DMFT index taken into study. The results demonstrated that the patients following a glucocorticoide treatment for bronchic asthma have explosive caries.
