Abstract:

Our study aims at identifying the functional adaptation of the oral cavity discontinuous architecture of the palate in child population with cleft lip and palate, at visualizing and analyzing the metric growth of the jaw in patients with cleft lip and palate in neonatal period, and at establishing the difficulties related to pre-surgical orthopaedics in newborns. We have used a study group of 60 patients, 31 boys and 29 girls, with cleft lip and palate, whose maxillary casts were 3D scanned within the St. G. MultiNr Company. The alveolar ridge lines and four Stillman points were marked by a single investigator and imported into the CAD system, for three-dimensional graphics recreation of the maxillary alveolar arch. Direct measurements: anterior and posterior diameter, length and height of the arch palate, were performed. No conclusions on the growth, direction and its extension in patients with cleft lip and palate could be drawn from the level of severity of malformation visible before the first surgery.
