Abstract:

The aim of this ten year-retrospective study was to explore the incidence of orofacial clefts in the South-East region of Romania. Out of the total number of recorded births, only 0.11% (16) had orofacial clefts: 4 (25%) unilateral cleft lip, 4 (25%) complete bilateral cleft of soft and hard palate, lip and alveolar ridge, 2 (12, 5%) unilateral cleft of soft palate, 2 (12, 5%) median cleft lip, 1 (6, 25%) bilateral cleft of lip, alveolar ridge and hard palate, 1 (6, 25%) unilateral cleft lip, alveolar ridge and hard palate, 1 (6, 25%) unilateral cleft lip and soft palate, 1 (6, 25%) complete unilateral cleft of soft and hard palate, lip and alveolar ridge. The incidence of orofacial disorders was similar to the globally reported rates, the most common ones being unilateral cleft lip and complete bilateral cleft of the soft and hard palate.
