Abstract:

A herbal maceration prepared from dried Epilobium parviflorum Schreb, whose benefits in endodontic alternative therapy are hardly known, was analyzed. Quantitative analysis of total phenols’ content was performed in a specialized testing laboratory at the National Research and Development Institute for Chemistry and Petrochemistry, Bucharest. The report issued by the institute confirmed that Epilobium parviflorum Schreb represents an important source of phenols. The antibacterial activity of the aqueous extract was evaluated against Escherichia coli by the disc diffusion method the results obtained showing high values, which inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli. The conclusions of the study provide new information on the total phenolics content, antibacterial properties of the aqueous extract and the possibility of using it as an irrigation agent in alternative endodontic therapy
