Fixed metal-ceramic prostheses are frequently used in clinical practice due to their extensive applications. The objectives of this study are to identify the main problems faced in the laboratory phase which may later lead to errors in the realization of the finished prosthetics. Materials and methods. A questionnaire with 11 questions was prepared and addressed to a group of dental technicians who perform mainly fixed metal-ceramic prostheses. The information obtained was statistically processed with the google forms program, converting the answers into percentage values. Results and disscusion. The porosities and pluses present on the surface of the metallic skeleton after casting are the main cause of failure of metal-ceramic prostheses, attaining a percentage of 45.2% Conclusions. The stage of ceramic component realization results in minimum technical problems. According to the present study, more working instructions are needed, focusing on the failures which occur in the realization of the metal frame. The main problems appear in the stages of wax pattern investing and metal pouring.
