CASE-BASED LEARNING IN PRE-CLINICAL ENDODONTICS: AN EVALUATION OF STUDENT’S SATISFACTION

Authors: Sarah Mubarak ALKAHTANY

Abstract:

Case-Based Learning (CBL) is an active teaching method aiming at training students for clinical patient’s care, by discussing simulated clinical scenarios in small groups. The objective of this survey was to assess student’s satisfaction with the implementation of CBL in pre-clinical endodonticss at the College of Dentistry, ”King Saud” University. The CBL session was conducted for all third year undergraduate students (N=50), who were divided
into small groups, a faculty member acting as a facilitator for each group. The diagnosis and treatment plan for the same clinical case was discussed. In the end of the CBL
session, a survey was distributed to assess student’s satisfaction about CBL. Their response was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Most of the students were highly satisfied about their CBL session in the pre-clinical endodontic course, so that we recommend CBL to be part of the curriculum for all pre-clinical courses.
