Abstract:

In the oral cavity, the spectrum of diseases caused by genetic changes varies from developmental disorders of the teeth up to their complete absence. Dental defects can be the physical expression of genetic defects, so that they can often be observed in a variety of syndromes associated with malformations. The purpose of this study was to identify the presence of various dental abnormalities associated with genetic syndromes in temporary teeth. Between 2010 and 2016, 47 patients diagnosed with genetic syndromes, hospitalized at the “Dr Gavril Curteanu”Municipal Clinical Hospital of Oradea, were studied. Patients’ age was 0 to 6 years range, both sexes; anamnesis and examinations of the oral cavity were performed. The results showed that, out of the 24 genetic syndromes identified, 18 also showed dental abnormalities: 65.96% singular, 12.77% multiple. These anomalies occur in number and shape (2.13%), volume (10.64%), structure (40.33%), and eruption (10.64%).
