Abstract:

Aim. The purpose of this study was to validate a Romanian version of the Dental Beliefs Survey-Revised (DBS-R).Materials and methods. The back-translation technique was used to obtain a Romanian DBS-R. This version was administered to 200 adults, together with the DASS-21R and DFS questionnaires. The DBS-R was retested on 30 participants, after 3-4 weeks. Cronbach’s alpha, exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) factor analyses were used to determine the psychometric properties. Results and discussion. EFA and CFA revealed a four-factor model – Professionalism, Comfort, Communication and Not feeling involved (χ²/df=2.02; CFI=0.91; RMSEA = 0.072). Cronbach’s alpha for the subscales varies between 0.90-0.63. Test-retest reliability for the total score was considered acceptable (r=0.63). Correlations between the DBS-R and DASS-21R and DFS are good, but moderate, implying good convergent validity. Conclusions. The Romanian DBS-R has good psychometric properties, appearing as a valid version to be used in future studies.
