Abstract:

The emergence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in January 2020 plunged the world into a global pandemic. The disease caused by the novel virus was called Covid-19. Following this pandemic, the WHO declared the state of emergency around the world. Spreading of the virus has caused concern in the medical community. Due to exposure to viruses derived from the oral cavity and airways, dentists and their staff were included in the list of professionals with high exposure risk. With the onset of the pandemic, changes appeared in the way dental services were provided. Recommendations such as social distance, proper hand washing, control of sneezing and coughing, use of personal protective equipment, use of high-volume suction, use of dental rubber dam, screening of patients by preparing a Covid screening questionnaire, teledentistry, regular disinfection of surfaces and equipment were among these protocols. In general, no dental treatment will be safe until the pandemic is completely controlled, requiring compliance with all recommended protocols.
