ASSESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE, PAST EXPERIENCE AND ATTITUDE REGARDING ROOT CANAL TREATMENT. AN ORIGINAL RESEARCH-BASED SURVEY

Abstract:

Introduction: One of the most common treatments performed in dentist’s office is root canal therapy. In general, awareness among patients visiting the dental clinics is considerably increased due to the use of various internet platforms. However, many patients are still neglecting the details of this procedure and the quality of treatment performed, so that the present study aimed at assessing the knowledge, awareness of previous treatment and attitude towards root canal treatment among patients attending various private dental clinics from the Central Hyderabad region, India. Materials and methods: A Google questionnaire form was formulated and the survey was conducted among patients attending private dental clinics in the central region of Hyderabad from June 2021 to September 2021. A gadget with the link to the Google form survey was provided to the patients willing to participate. A total of 12 close-ended structured questions were forwarded to be digitally filled by patients. The observations were tabulated and statistically analyzed.  Results and discussion: Over half of the patients considered that pain is the reason urging them to undergo RCT and most showed positive awareness and good knowledge about RCT. Conclusions: The socioeconomic conditions influence the awareness and knowledge of patients.
