Abstract:

Digital technologies have a significant impact on the field of dental imaging diagnostics. Tremendous progress has been observed from the creation of the first dental radiographic image to the present day. With the introduction of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), diagnostic, planning, and treatment capabilities have expanded across all domains of dental medicine,  enabling to overcome the limitations associated with conventional imaging studies. The purpose of this review is to present the application possibilities of 3D generated models from CBCT examinations. A total of 60 articles from the electronic databases of ResearchGate, Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scopus, as well as from textbooks dedicated to CBCT scanners have been analyzed. The search was limited to complete articles written in English and published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Literature data on the application of 3D generated models from CBCT are still limited but promising, requiring further exploration, as it provides numerous and diverse possibilities for dental practitioners, especially in the diagnostic process.
