ARE INTERMAXILLARY RELATIONSHIPS IN THE CANINE AREA A PREDICTOR FOR INTERMAXILLARY RELATIONSHIPS IN THE MOLAR AREA?

Abstract:

The aim of the study is to identify a possible link/correlation between occlusion parameters recorded in the cases here under analysis. The static and dynamic intermaxillary relations of the subjects were analysed based on study models, mounted in the articulator. We consider that the most significant relationships that can be a predictor of occlusion disorders are those between the sagittal positioning of the mandibular molars, which correlate with changes on the same arch in the sagittal direction at canine level and in vertical direction, at molar level. At canine level, we can expect a similar sagittal positioning between the two arches, as well as the same type of guidance in lateral movements. While there can be significant correlations as our study suggest, we cannot generalize it to all possible occlusal relations.
