Abstract:

Introduction: The lingual vascular canal of the mandible is commonly considered as a safe area for surgical procedures including insertion of an endosseous implant, orthognathic surgery, and rehabilitation after trauma of the anterior mandible. The aim of the present study is to assess the incidence of lingual vascular canal and its association with demographic parameters. Materials and methods: A total of 185 Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) patients who underwent implant placement at a Private hospital between June 2019 to Feb 2021 were considered for the study. Data of the patients was collected. All CBCT were assessed, and data recorded in Excel was subjected to statistical analysis. Results and discussion: Out of the 185 patients, 43% were male and 57% were female, 81% of them having a lingual vascular canal. However, no significant association was evidenced between gender and distribution of the lingual vascular canal. Conclusions: CBCT provides adequate information about the presence of lingual vascular canal. Radiologists and surgeons should be aware of it, to prevent further complications.
