Abstract:

Aim: To assess the knowledge and opinions of dentists and dental technicians regarding digitally obtained complete dentures and their interest in this prosthetic workflow. Materials and methods: An online questionnaire with 15 single and multiple-choice questions was distributed to a sample of dental practitioners in Bucharest, Romania (39 dentists and 27 dental technicians). The collected data was subjected to statistical analysis. Results and discussion:  Dental practitioners are divided into different groups depending on age, gender, workplace location, and work experience. Differences were observed in the results obtained regarding their knowledge about the features of digitally acquired dentures (advantages, disadvantages, technologies for getting digital dentures, and the most important providers of digital denture solutions). Regarding benefits, 72.7% of the participants considered these protocols more efficient (reduced visits and treatment time) as the most important. Regarding the disadvantages of the digital workflow, the most frequently selected was the high initial cost (78.8%). Conclusions: This type of prosthetic treatment and workflow has yet to be successfully implemented in current dentistry practice in Romania; dental practitioners are interested in applying the newest digital technologies, such as additive or subtractive technology systems, for obtaining digital dentures.
