Registration of the denture bearing area is an essential step for a successful rehabilitation of complete edentulism. Traditionally, it is performed using different materials and techniques, for the moment methods based on muscles functional molding being preferred. As a consequence of the development of digital techniques, a new possibility for the registration of supporting structures emerged. The digital impression uses intraoral camera and offers precise details of the denture bearing area, but without the possibility of the functional registration of the marginal area. For the moment, the association between the traditional and digital techniques seems to be the ideal solution for a perfect registration of the denture bearing area in edentulous patients.
