Abstract:

Aim. To evaluate possible signs related to the periodontal and dental consequences of bruxism in a group of patients diagnosed with sleep bruxism. Materials and methods. The study included a number of 55 patients diagnosed with definite bruxism. An intra-oral examination was performed, aiming to identify the presence of: mobility, thermal sensitivity, discomfort/ pain on biting and fractured teeth. Results and discussion. Tooth mobility and thermal sensitivity were detected in the highest percentage at the level of sextant 5. The presence of discomfort/ pain on biting recorded an increased frequency at the level of sextant 4. The presence of dental fractures recorded the highest percentage at the level of sextant 2. Conclusions. Sextant 5 exhibits the highest levels of periodontal and dental issues. Dental mobility appears to be a common issue across all sextants. Thermal sensitivity and discomfort/ pain on biting are also notable concerns. The frequency for teeth fractures is lower compared to other indicators.
