Scientific research on treating periodontitis has increased as a result of the concerning rise in antibiotic resistance and the ongoing demand for alternative therapies. As a result, numerous scientific investigations have been conducted to illustrate the antibacterial and antibiofilm properties of therapeutic herbs. One of these species is Hypericum perforatum L., which yields an oil rich in phenolic acids, flavonoids, and hypericin. In order to create alternative treatments for periodontitis, our study, which is a review of the literature, highlights the significance of preclinical and clinical research based on the active components isolated from Hypericum perforatum L.
