Diabetes mellitus in companion animals is associated with a high prevalence of dental disorders, including gingivitis, periodontal disease, dental calculus, and abscess formation. This study combines a narrative review of the literature with eight original clinical cases from a veterinary practice in Iași, Romania, examining the relationship between glycemic control, disease duration, and severity of oral pathology. The analysis reveals that poor metabolic regulation and longer disease duration are strongly associated with more severe dental lesions. Species-specific differences were observed, with dogs tending to develop localized calculus-related lesions, while cats exhibited more diffuse gingival inflammation. These findings underscore the necessity of integrated diabetes management and routine dental monitoring in companion animals.
