HIDDEN PAIN: THE LINK BETWEEN DENTAL PROBLEMS, AUTISM AND AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR

Authors: Georgiana OPREA, Alin CIOBICA

Abstract:

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by difficulties in communication, social interaction, and repetitive behavior. Pathology-specific aggression can be a negative factor in the oral health of people with ASD. Predisposition for dental caries, bruxism and various dental pathologies increase, their treatment being hampered by hypersensitivity
to various stimuli, communication and behavior deficiencies specific to the pathology. The challenges in dental management, the familiar and educational
environment along with the impact of typical ASD behavior and their impact on oral health are highlighted in literature.
