Abstract:

Formaldehyde is a widely used chemical in both the dentistry and food industry, raising concerns about its potential health risks. In dentistry, it is commonly found in endodontic materials and disinfectants, with studies highlighting its mutagenic and carcinogenic effects on oral tissues. Simultaneously, formaldehyde adulteration in food remains a significant issue, posing risks through
ingestion. This review provides an updated analysis of formaldehyde’s sources, detection methods, biological mechanisms, and associated health hazards. By examining its role in both dental and nutritional contexts, we aim to
enhance awareness and promote safer practices in clinical and public health settings.
