Abstract:

Globally, liver diseases are responsible for
approximately 2 million deaths annually. Chronic liver
conditions, such as hepatitis and cirrhosis, have significant
systemic effects that extend beyond the hepatic system.
One often-overlooked area that is considerably affected by
liver dysfunction is oral health. At the same time,
periodontal diseases are inflammatory conditions that can
lead to tooth loss. On the other hand, an increasing number
of studies suggest that periodontal disease may negatively
impact the pathophysiology of liver diseases, indicating a
bidirectional relationship between these two categories of
conditions. This article aims to explore the link between
liver diseases and common oral manifestations such as
gingival bleeding, halitosis, delayed wound healing, and
increased susceptibility to infections. Additionally, it will
analyze the side effects of liver disease medications on the
oral cavity
