Abstract:

Artificial saliva is an essential solution, used as a saliva substitute to relieve the symptoms of dry mouth (xerostomia) and restore moisture to the oral cavity. Xerostomia is a common condition that affects many people, especially those with salivary gland dysfunction or as a side effect of certain medications. Artificial saliva is also used to alleviate oral inflammation (mucositis) resulting from chemotherapy treatments. Artificial saliva is composed of electrolytes, proteins, water, and other substances that moisten and lubricate the oral cavity. In this review, we focus on the main components of artificial saliva, namely medicinal herbs and dexpanthenol, and analyze their benefits in oral care. As medicinal herbs have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, they help reduce oral inflammation and stimulate salivary secretion. Dexpanthenol plays an essential role in hydrating and healing the mucous tissues of the oral cavity. By combining these ingredients, artificial saliva not only helps manage xerostomia but also contributes to improving oral health by hydrating and preventing infections. The article highlights the synergy between these natural ingredients and their increasing use in modern oral care products. Keywords: artificial saliva, xerostomia, oral health, antiinflammatory effect, oral care.
