With the backdrop of accelerated antibiotic resistance, alternative treatments based on plant extracts are gaining popularity among various research groups. In this regard, our brief review of the literature presents the pharmacological properties of Humulus lupulus L., a herbaceous liana widely distributed throughout world’stemperate zones, as well as the applicability of these therapeutic properties in the context of the prevention and treatment of some oro-dental pathologies. Xanthohumol has anticariogenic properties, and hops’ polyphenols protect gingival epithelial cells. Polyphenolic antioxidants derived from Humulus lupulus L. plants have both preventative and therapeutic properties for oral mucosal diseases. Interdisciplinary approaches that bring together experts in pharmacology, phytotherapy, and dentistry can open up new avenues of research into the efficacy of Humulus lupulus L. plant extracts in the prevention and treatment of oro-dental diseases.
