Abstract:

Nowadays, allergic rhinitis represents a global health issue, viewed as a major chronic respiratory disease, if considering its ever-increasing prevalence, its impact upon school performance and productiveness of work, as well as the costs it produces and its associated comorbidities.
In spite of the discomfort they produce, occupational rhinites are still under-diagnosed as, up to now, they have not been considered as a priority in the studies devoted to their incidence or prevalence, comparatively with other affections, characterized by a more severe evolutive potential. The qualitative alteration of patient’s life in each of these two types of rhinitis required unceasing efforts from the part of specialists, materialized in remarkable progress, not only in deciphering the physio-pathological mechanisms involved but also in the re-evaluation of some classical treatment methods and application of new therapeutical variants or of modern techniques in correctivesurgery. The causal relation between the exposure at work and the development of a suggestive symptomatology brings into attention the importance of preventive activities, as well as of the measures for environmental control, to be applied both to the building as such, and to the individualworking in that space. Elaboration of clinical guides of diagnosis and treatment subjected to permanent updating are especially useful for practitioners, assuring a higher efficiency of the medical act of such pathologies.
