Aim. This study is aimed to monitor the enamel developmental defects of deciduous teeth and their maxillary prevalence on dental types in rural area in Suceava county (a Romanian area with low quantity of fluoride).Materials and methods. The research covers a number of 260 children who have been examined: 128 boys and 132 girls with chronological age between 3-9 years old. The examination was performed in a dental office, with natural light, without previously washing or drying the teeth. For data systematization IPIINFO 6.0 and Excel XP was used, with 95% confidence intervals. In order to test the differences, χ2 test was used, and the adopted limit significance was the classical one, of 0,05 or lower. Results and discussions. The prevalence of deciduous teeth enamel developmental defects, which was appreciated with DDE index, proved to reach a percentage of 15%, out of which 7,3% opacities, 5,8% hypoplasies and 1,9% discoloured enamel. Maxillary central incisives and lateral incisives have been mostly affected, followed by the first maxillary and mandibular molars. Enamel developmental defects were noticed more frequently on the vestibular faces of the incisives and on the molar occlusal sides. Conclusions. Every age group mentioned above should be judiciously and thoroughly evaluated from a clinical and paraclinical point of view, determining the risk factors for their real clinical and therapeutical prognostic as well as the curative, preventive and interceptive means.
