This study aims at analyzing the efficiency of the deer antler biomaterial comparatively with the use of β-tricalcium phosphate for the purposes of bone regeneration at the level of bone defects caused by periodontal diseases. Pigs were used as study animals for this experiment, taking into consideration the biological similarities with the human organism. The macroscopic and microscopic images reflected the osteogenetic potential by using lyophilized and partially decalfied deer antler power, as well as unwanted inflammatory reactions. Despite all these, the hypothesis of producing a new type of biomaterial starting from deer antler powder remains open.
