Many patients who have various diseases that need
oral anticoagulation also require dental procedure at some
point. Nevertheless, the optimal management of such
patients is debatable. Different approaches have been
suggested, but the strategy adopted should take into
account each patient’s risk factors for thromboembolism,
as well as the type and likely duration of the procedure.
Although the literature shows a small incidence of major
bleeding in patients with oral anticoagulation who are to be
subjected to dental procedures, the purpose of this paper is
to summarize the possible approaches of these patients
and to provide an anticoagulation management diagram
that may be used in daily practice.
