DRUG MANAGEMENT OF PAIN IN DENTISTRY

Authors: Adela DĂNCILĂ, Mona IONAŞ

Abstract:

In order to reduce the pain or even prevent it from occurring it is recommended that dentists put on medication patients with complicated dental interventions. Research is continuously made to find the appropriate treatment. Therefore, pain, its characteristics and the mechanisms of each drug action must be fully understood. Pharmacological treatment with analgesics to prevent or reduce dental pain in patients who have undergone dental interventions is common. Optimal postoperative analgesic therapy should be efficient and with minimum incidence of side effects. Local anesthesia keeps the pain under control during the treatment but, subsequently, the postoperative pain control is frequently inadequate, which may lead to the development of chronic pain. An efficient analgesic treatment should have no or as few side effects as possible.
