The scope of the study performed in vitro was to test and compare the adhesion of brackets bonded with Fuji Ortho LC (GC) unto the untreated or acid etched enamel in three situations: uncontaminated enamel, enamel moistened with saliva and with human blood, respectively. The group under study was formed of 60 maxillary premolars extracted for orthodontic purposes. The premolars were fortuitously divided into six groups, as a function of enamel’s treatment prior to bonding: 1- acid etched and uncontaminated; 2 – acid etched and moistened with saliva; 3 – acid etched and moistened with blood; 4 – unetched and uncontaminated; 5 – unetched and moistened with salivă; 6 – unetched and moistened with blood. Further on, the Discovery brackets were bonded with the Fuji Ortho LC (GC) adhesive. A universal testing device was used for brackets detachment. Shear bond strength was determined and compared by statistic methods. The average values in groups 1-6 were 20.32, 18.02, 12.13, 11.22, 10.96, 9.71 Mpa, respectively. Statistically significant differences were observed between groups 1, 2 and the others, but no such differences between groups 1 and 2.
