Abstract:

Introduction. Predicting dental caries, viewed as one of the most common diseases, is an urgent problem of modern dentistry. The purpose is to determine the efficacy of predicting dental caries in people of all ages using the “CariesPro” software product, built on the basis of neural network programming. Materials and methods. 189 people aged 6-7, 12-15 and 35-44 years were examined, in which the intensity of caries, oral hygiene, structural and functional acid resistance of tooth enamel and its functional component were determined. The obtained data was entered the “CariesPro” software. A repeated inspection within 1 year growth of caries, comparatively with the forecasted index, was defined. Results and discussion. The increase in caries intensity, according to age groups, was 2.63±0.15; 2.74±0.13 and 2.06±0.14. According to the computer forecasting, the growth rates should be 2.54±0.14; 2.71±0.12 and 2.07±0.16, respectively, i.e. the actual and predicted values did not differ significantly (p>0.05). Conclusions. The efficacy of caries prediction within a year, according to the computer neural network software “CariesPro” in children aged 6-7 years, is 92.82%, aged 12-15 years – 90.19%, in adults aged 35-44 years – 68.46%.
