Abstract:

Objective: The present systematic review assessed parental attitudes toward different management techniques applied during dental treatment of children, to evidence the factors affecting such attitudes. Materials and methods: The electronic databases including SID, Iranmedex, Magiran, Medlib, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane, Science Direct and Google Scholar were searched on articles published without a time limit until December 2020.Results and discussion: 55 studies met the criteria for final inclusion, their findings showing that the most acceptable method of behavioral control is the nonverbal communication technique, followed by the TSD technique. The highest acceptance percentage was related to nonverbal communication (91%), followed by the Tell-Show Do or TSD technique (88%). The least accepted technique was home treatment(17%).Conclusions: Despite the limitations of this systematic review and meta-analysis, it evidenced that the most accepted method of behavioral control is nonverbal communication, followed by TSD. The least accepted technique was home treatment.
