Introduction: The success rate of dental implants in treating partially edentulous and completely edentulous patients has a predictable outcome – a success rate of 98% and above. The success of implants depends on patient’s clinical conditions, the surgical technique applied and the implant design. Bone quality and quantity determines the procedure, the design and type of dental implant system used. Aim: To study the association between age and bone density in implants placed in edentulous maxilla and mandible. Materials and methods: The study included patients who had undergone implant placement from June 2020-February 2021 in Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai, India. Data regarding bone density of the implant site was collected and analysed. Association between age and bone density was recorded in Excel and subjected to statistical analysis. Results and discussion: In the present study, D2 bone was the most common bone density seen, 53% of the patients having D2 type of bone density in the lower posterior region. The next commonly seen type of bone density was D3. Chi square statistical analysis was done and the association between bone density and age was found to be statistically significant (p value – 0.03). Conclusions: The D2 bone was the most frequently found presence, followed by D3 in the missing edentulous sites. There was a significant association between age and bone density, suggesting that the D2 bone was most commonly seen in the age group of 28-37 years.
