Abstract:

Mental health disorders, such as anxiety and depression,
are closely linked to oral health, with each influencing the
other. Chronic dental pain, tooth loss, and aesthetic issues
can exacerbate psychological distress, while mental health
conditions can lead to poor oral hygiene and unhealthy
behaviors. Psychiatric disorders, such as anxiety and
depression, are associated with neglecting dental care,
which can worsen oral health conditions like tooth decay
and gum disease. Additionally, dental anxiety often
prevents patients from seeking care, further intensifying
both physical and emotional suffering. This paper
advocates for an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to
patient care, where dental professionals, psychologists,
and psychiatrists collaborate to address both physical and
psychological needs. Raising awareness about the
connection between mental and oral health is essential for
improving patient care and ensuring better long-term
outcomes.
