Abstract:

Chlorella vulgaris, a unicellular green microalga, is rich in bioactive compounds, possessing antioxidant, anti inflammatory, antimicrobial, and tissue‑regenerative properties. In dentistry, it shows potential against oral pathogens and biofilms, inhibiting bacterial adhesion, disrupting biofilm maturation, and reducing tissue damage. Its peptides can act as a natural photosensitizer in light‑activated disinfection, providing effects comparable to conventional treatments with fewer side effects. Beyond oral health, C. vulgaris supports immune modulation and reduces oxidative stress, highlighting its promise as a safe, multifunctional therapeutic agent.
