Abstract:

Introduction: Familiarity with root canal pattern intricacies plays a vital role in determining the procedures required to preserve tooth structure, as tt can improve the prognosis of endodontic procedures and their subsequent management. Materials and methods:  One hundred patients aged between 25-40 years, diagnosed with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis undergoing root canal treatment in maxillary third molars related to both, were clinically evaluated as to the number of root canals. All canals were located with an endodontic explorer and verified radiographically, with files placed in the root canals. Results and discussion: Out of the 100 patients, 44 (44%) had 1 root canal, 12 (12%) had 2 root canals, 30 (30%) had 3 root canals and 14 patients (14%) had 4 root canals.  Conclusions: Additional root canals located in this study provided researchers and general dentist a road map to treat maxillary third molars.
